This afternoon, I painted my first abstract painting. I haven't decided if it's finished yet because I don't love the way it came out. I might add a silhouette or words later. I got pretty frustrated with this one because I was trying something different when I blended colors together and I couldn't get it to work consistently. It turned out okay, but I don't think it looks quite complete.

Tonight I spent some time doing my first colored pencil sketch. I have to admit it was harder than I though it would be. A few weeks back I was sketching just for fun but I didn't use any colors. I didn't think it would be so hard to blend colored pencils into one another. I drew two toucans on top of a leafy background, so it's pretty colorful and very bright. I think it turned out really well, considering it was my first time attempting this type of sketch.
I have had some struggles with meeting Nicole. She's been really busy with projects she's been working on and personal issues. We've still only met once, which means I don't have as many hours in with her as I should. Now, with the corona virus being an issue and having no school, we aren't expected to meet with our mentors. That means that I've been doing my project on my own, but I've still been communicating with Nicole about my paintings. She's given me some tips on blending and what brushes I should be using, which will be super helpful in future paintings. She also is going to send me videos of her working to show me painting techniques that she uses, which will be really cool and hopefully I can apply them to my own paintings.
Tonight, I did another painting. This one was a sunset painting with a view of power lines and some birds in the distance. I used water to blend the sky this time so I found blending much easier. It was also more fun to paint because I had a better idea of what brushes to use and techniques for getting thin and precise lines.
Today, I started the actual product of my senior project. I painted a set of four small canvasses. I painted a scene with a tree on all of them and each was in a different season. I struggled a bit with blending the sky because on the first one I did, I used a brush that wasn't very good for blending colors in a nice gradient. I did get better as I went along though, and I think they turned out really well over all. You can view them on my "Pictures" page.
